On December 11 2014, the UN General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga, and today is the first International Yoga Day. The occasion is being marked by large scale practice of Yoga Asanas (postures) at different locations all across the world. In India, one of the largest gathering has been in the capital New Delhi, where thousands of enthusiasts took part in a Yoga camp at Raj Ghat – including the Indian Prime minister.
As is happening all over the world and in India, yoga camps have been organized for today in different places across Mumbai too, including the locality where I live in. One of these places is the Geeta Gyan Yoga Kendra, where my father has been giving daily yoga lessons for more than 23 years. The camp had quite a turnout, despite Sunday being a day off for the regular yoga lessons. Also, there will be a week long yoga camp for diabetes treatment held at the same place starting 22nd June 2015.
